April 7, 2011: After-Action Report

Last night’s signing at Dragon’s Lair went pretty well. Not a huge crowd, but a lot of fun and some great conversation.

If you’re in or near the Austin area and haven’t yet picked up The Conqueror’s Shadow or The Warlord’s Legacy, you might want to swing by Dragon’s Lair to do so. They have several signed copies of each left in stock. You get the advantage of a signed copy, without even having to interact with me personally. πŸ˜‰

Thanks to everyone there for the invite. Hope we can do this again before too long.

March 29, 2011: Lend Me Your Ears!

If you’re familiar with the Functional Nerds podcast–or, well, even if you’re not–you should know that I’m a guest on their latest episode. If you’re interested in my work (prior or forthcoming), my sources of inspiration, my opinions on a whole mess of unimportant things, or just in hearing me make a fool of myself (as opposed to my usual method of making a fool of myself in writing), you may want to check it out.

Thanks to John Anealio for the invite, and thanks to Patrick Hester and Jaym Gates for hosting.

March 28, 2011: Hey, I have class!

Or at least I visited one.

I just wanted to offer a quick thanks and a wave to the teachers and students of the high school creative writing classes at the Kinkaid School in Houston. I was invited to address two of said classes this past Friday, and while I may have been a bit scattered, I had a lot of fun, and I think (hope?) the students did, too.

Thanks for the invite, guys. Now go do your homework. πŸ˜‰

(Also, just a reminder that I’ll be doing a signing at Dragon’s Lair in Austin next Wednesday, starting at about 7:00. Hope to see some of you there.)

March 16, 2011: Local Signing!

On the evening of Wednesday April 6th, starting at about 7:00 PM, I’ll be doing a signing at Dragon’s Lair, our friendly local gaming (and comics) store. Yes, this means I’ll be there during that week’s D&D Encounters evening. And yes, they’ll have some of my books–not just the usual gaming books, but a bunch of the novels–available for purchase. πŸ˜€

(That said, you don’t have to buy something there to get it signed; I’ll be happy to sign anything I worked on that you bring with you. Just make sure the store knows that you did, indeed, bring it in.)

I hope to see a bunch of you there.

March 15, 2011: Babel Clash!

"Babel Clash" is an author vs. author debate, in the form of back-and-forth column/blog entries, on the Borders site. Each author pairing runs for two weeks (sans weekends).

This time around? Ari "That’s Me" Marmell vs. Sam "I’m Not Yet Old Enough to Read What I’m Writing" Sykes. πŸ˜‰

The debate? Series vs. standalone novels in fantasy fiction. Well, sort of; I have a swerve up my sleeve. 😈

You can find Sam’s opening salvo here. My response will go up tomorrow, and check back frequently after that for the remainder of the matchdebate.
