The Battle, but Not the War

So, voting is over on this round of the Suvudu Cage Match, and as expected–given the slight discrepancies in the size of the fanbases–Corvis Rebaine has been defeated by Severus Snape. (Despite the fact that anyone who’s read the books knows that wouldn’t happen. 😛 )

Thanks to all who voted for us. Heck, thanks to everyone who participated, regardless of how you voted. I hope you at least saw something intriguing in the character.

And have no fear, the time will come when I’ll have a character popular enough to stand a chance against someone from the Potter juggernaut. Oh, yes.

Fourteen Years

With all the other stuff going on today, it’s vital that I take a moment out for this.

Fourteen years ago today, my fiance became my wife. George and I stood up in front of our friends and family, in a pavilion in a county park. I remember that there were words, but I’m pretty sure I couldn’t hear any of them over my heart pounding at about 627 beats per minute.

These fourteen years have had their ups and downs–some very high, some very low. There’s a lot I’m grateful for, and a lot I would change. But the good was made better, and the bad at least somewhat mitigated, because she was with me.

In just the past year or two, I’ve come to be reminded of something important, something that almost got lost in the day-to-day life of almost a decade and a half. And that was this:

My favorite thing in the world, bar none, is her laugh.

I love you, George. And thank you.

Corvis and I need your help!

As I’ve just announced on the front page, the newest entries in the Suvudu (Random House) Cage Match are up. For the first time, one of my own characters–Corvis Rebaine–is part of the contest.

And I need your help.

See, each match has a written scenario, describing how the folks at Suvudu believe the match would go. And they also asked me to write my version of how I think the match should go.

But ultimately, it comes down to a vote. And that means that more popular/famous characters have an edge over newer/less famous ones, purely because their fanbase is substantially larger. Sure, people should vote on who they think would win based on the characters and descriptions, but lots of people vote based on the characters they like better, or who they’ve heard of.

And Corvis’s first opponent? Severus Snape. 😯 Yeah, the Harry Potter fandom is slightly larger than the Corvis Rebaine fandom.

So please. Please, please, please. I really want Corvis to make a good showing, at least in the first couple of rounds. So, you can click here to read my version of the match. You can click here to read the Suvudu version of the match. But ultimately, what I need you to do is click here and vote for Corvis.

Pretty please?
