January 31, 2011: New sale!

Well, well. What have we here? Why, it appears to be a short story sale! 😎

Specifically, I’ve sold a story called "The Purloined Ledger" (Poe reference fully intended, of course) to an anthology of urban fantasy and similar fiction set in the roaring 20s. Said anthology–release date and formal title to be announced–will be published through Absolute XPress, an award-winning Canadian press.

This is an especially big deal for me, because "The Purloined Ledger" stars a character about whom I intend to write a great deal more in the future. (And in fact, who is the protagonist of a novel my agent is currently submitting around.) So the knowledge that he’s going to appear in public for the first time is particularly gratifying. πŸ˜€

Special thanks to Jaym and Erika for accepting the story.

January 25, 2011: It’s time!

It’s after midnight, so I’m gonna call it.

Happy Book-Day!

As of today, The Warlord’s Legacy should be appearing on shelves, Kindles, Nooks, and iPads across the US.Β

This will be the second offspring of myself and the warlord Corvis Rebaine–and there was probably a way to say that involving less unpleasant imagery, but what the hell. Will it be the last? Stay tuned.

Well, no. Don’t stay tuned. Tune back in later. For now, go. Buy! Read! (And if you’re unsure, remember that you can read a 50-page sample, for free, by clicking here.)

January 21, 2011: Warlord’s Legacy sample

So, did you like The Conqueror’s Shadow, and are trying to decide if you want to get The Warlord’s Legacy? Or are you still trying to make up your mind about both?

Let’s help you out with that. Random House has posted a sample of The Warlord’s Legacy as part of their "50 Page Fridays" feature. It’s straight from the text, it’s uncut, and it’s free. Clicky, clicky.

(And if you missed it earlier, the sample of The Conqueror’s Shadow is still available as well, here.)

While you’re at it, don’t forget the "Say What" contest, which ends in 10 days.

Major announcement very soon now…

January 17, 2011: Spill.com

Some of you are already familiar with Spill. For those who aren’t, it’s a cool entertainment news site, with lots of funny and/or interesting animated reviews and podcasts.

They’re also running a contest/giveaway of several signed copies of The Conqueror’s Shadow, and one of The Warlord’s Legacy.Β  πŸ˜€ Click here for details.

And in the meantime, don’t forget that my own "Say What" contest is still running through the end of the month. Yet more opportunities for free stuff, so get cracking!

January 8, 2011: Get Out the Vote!

Happy new year, everyone. Hope 2011 is treating you well, young as it is.

As I mentioned on my blog the other day, The Conqueror’s Shadow (British edition from Gollancz) is up for the Gemmell Legend Award. Well, voting is now open, and I could use any votes you’re willing to offer. (Not that you must vote for me, of course; if there’s another book up there you think is more deserving, vote for it. Just don’t tell me about it. πŸ˜‰ )

As this is my first non-tie-in novel, and there’s a huge amount of really talented competition, I don’t honestly expect to win. But I’d love it if I could at least make a strong showing. Thanks for your support.

And while you’re here, don’t forget about my "Say What" contest, in which you can win a free, signed book.

More news–that just might include a new novel announcement 😎 –in the near future.

December 28, 2010: Releases, contests, and art!

Today’s the day, folks. The Conqueror’s Shadow, released this past February in hardcover, is now available in the US and related markets in a mass market paperback edition! (That’s the "standard" paperback format you see pretty much everywhere, for those who aren’t familiar with the terminology.) If you’ve been waiting for the cheaper edition to give the book a look-see, now’s your chance.

And hey, you’ll have a whole month to read it before The Warlord’s Legacy hits shelves in January. πŸ˜‰

In celebration of this release, I present to you the following:

First, a brand new contest, where you can win more free books! Click here for details.

Second, a brand new piece of artwork, illustrated by the esteemed Claudio Pozas. Claudio’s done a great deal of work–mostly illustrating, but a bit of writing as well–for a number of role-playing game companies, and he wanted to take a crack at his own interpretation of Corvis Rebaine, the Terror of the East. So here it is; enjoy. πŸ˜€
